DON'T BUY A PIG IN A POKE!

Captain Pete will perform a full inspection of any Jet Ski you are considering investing your hard earned money into.

Hull Inspection

How's the Gelcoat?
Any major Repairs Done?

Charging System Test

What shape is the battery in?
Is the charging system operating the way it should?

Fuel System Inspection
Are the Carbs and /or Fuel Injector Operating as expected?

Jet Pump Inspection
Is the pump and prop is good shape?

Engine Compression test
Are all cylinders at normal compression..or is one low?..meaning an engine rebuild is around the next bend

What's the story on engine hours and rpm spread?

For late model Seadoo products, a report showing what rpm the engine has been run for and how long it was run at that rpm is VITAL information you use to make a fair offer. Does the Seadoo ski you are considering not have an hour meter? All d.e.s.s equipped skis have an hour meter internal to the controller. One that can be read with the correct service tools.

The maximum/minimum temperature of the 4-tec engine and exhaust cooling systems are also provided

Has the voltage regulator been cooking the battery?, or perhaps the ski is not charging the battery at all.

Having detailed diagnostic reports make you a smarter buyer, less likely to fall into a money pit.

The Full inspection with a written report
(which you can present to the seller as a negotiating tool:)

$75

How can you not afford it?

Major repairs brought on by skipped/skimpy service routinely runs $500 or better

Have a look at the driveshaft from what was considered a "good deal" Seadoo 4-tec..such a good deal
that the buyer (an acquaintance of mine who is an experienced JetSki rider) DID not perform a full inspection.
As you might imagine this sort of issue is easily prevented with proper after ride maintenance and winter services.
The $4 rubber seal at the impeller failed and at the moment it looks like both the impeller and driveshaft have to be scrapped
Costs to repair? I'd have to estimate this at close to $1000. That's right one-thousand dollars!

This sort of hidden damage is the reason you cannot afford to skip a pre-sale inspection.

After an inspection, you can name your price take it or leave it, you know exactly what work the ski needs.

Even the most skilled seller will realize you mean business, if they don't meet your price there won't be a deal.

The seller should be expected to pay a percentage of the needed work..after all, the asking price is as it sits.

Don't expect a seller to pony up for a new paint job or seat cover...but if you find the ski needs carb work, call it barely running and make an offer less about half of the repair cost..or less if there are other factors, too numerous to go into here.

Same day service on inspections. I know your time is valuable and I you can often get in and out within 90 minutes

Too far away?..get your ski inspected before you lay your money down. Doesn't matter where. Just do it!
